Good Morning, Friends! Here are 5 things I’m up to this week…
What I’m working on – I just finished up this year’s April Fool’s Day press release. It’s going to be a good one again this year! This is one of my favorite things we do every year because it’s so…Late Night Slice. We get to (hopefully) make people laugh and that’s something most businesses don’t get to do. Not taking ourselves too seriously is probably one of my favorite LNS brand element. With all the “serious” things we deal with day-in and day-out, it’s good to remember to be funny!
Something I’m Pondering — Spring! Well, the “spring” of business and nice weather in general, really. Like most any business in Ohio, it’s challenging for us when the weather turns cold. This year though hit us really hard. We faced and worked through some super hard problems. We had to make difficult decisions and sometimes, we had no idea what the next day or week was going to look like. Day by day, we took each problem and did our best to come up with solutions. The idea of springtime is not just about nicer weather for me. It’s a metaphor for the seasons of business. I’m constantly reminding myself, “spring is right around the corner”. I think we can enjoy spring more because we went through winter. As a business, we’re better today than we were yesterday because we went through a “winter” ourselves.
Something I’m reading or listening to — Thursday night was really awesome for me. I got to revisit something that I haven’t listened to in about 24 years to the day; my very first Grateful Dead show. Back on Sunday, March 20th 1994, for some reason I still don’t understand, my parents and Bryan Kneil’s parents let a 13 year-old me and a 14 year-old Bryan go to our first actual concert by ourselves. Yeah, a Grateful Dead show. I knew nothing about the band other than a family friend saying, “you should see them before they’re not around anymore”. I’m forever grateful for that suggestion because it introduced me to, not only what would go on to be my favorite band, but it opened up a whole new world of music, bands, history, festivals, personalities and so much more. Jerry Garcia died about a year later. Shout out to Jill and Eric W. for enjoying that 2+ hour show with me. I haven’t heard those notes played in 24 years.
What I’m watching — I’m trying to finish up the series Crashing on HBO. Pete Holmes is one of my favorite comedians right now. If you’re into stand-up comics, this series is excellent with lots of cameos from famous stand-up’s. Plus, it’s only in its 3rd season so it’s easy to catch up on.
An app or technology I’m into lately— Carrot Weather App. I love my weather app more than about anything on my phone. I have it set to “Overkill”, and it’s about the funniest part of my day. Download it! You won’t regret it!
Have a wonderful week, all!
